Name merges
Every place this site treats two filed spellings as one filer — 37 spellings folded into 30 filers.
Committees spell the same name several ways across their own reports — Schnuck Markets, Inc. and Schnuck Markets Inc, or a candidate written two ways on two filings. Totals are de-duplicated on the name, so an unmerged spelling gets counted as if it were a separate filer: the same money twice, or one firm's business split across two rows.
So a total here can differ from a raw sum of the filings. This page is the whole reason for any such difference. The filed spelling is never altered — every row still shows what the committee actually wrote, and still links to that page of that PDF.
What is deliberately NOT merged: individual donors on the strength of a similar name. People who share a surname are usually a household, not one person — spouses commonly give the same amount on the same day — and merging them would invent a donor who does not exist. Those keep the maybe different person flag instead. A company and its PAC stay separate too (they are separate filers under Missouri law), as do different locals of one union. An individual is merged only where the filings themselves show a single transaction reported twice — never because two names look alike. Note that the same amount on the same date is not evidence of that: one donor here gave $25,000 on 2/7/2023 and again on 2/9/2023, two real gifts that stay separate.
