What's here, and what isn't
A public inventory of this database — candidates and the PACs that spend around them: every report we hold, every search we ran that came back empty, and every gap we have not filled yet.
A search on this site that returns nothing can mean three completely different things. Either we looked and there was nothing to find — the filer genuinely reported no money that year — or we have not collected that year yet, or the committee did not exist yet. Those are different claims, and an empty results page looks identical for all three.
Every other page here can only show you what we have. This one shows you the shape of what we don't, so you can tell which kind of silence you are looking at before you draw a conclusion from it.
Nothing on this page is an accusation or a finding about any person. A grey cell is a fact about our filing cabinet.
Each “cell” is one filer × one report type × one year, 2020–2026. Across the 4 report types tracked below, we hold 258, have confirmed 213 as genuinely having nothing to report, and have 13 still to pull. A further 104 are years before the committee's MEC ID was issued — those are not gaps in our collection, because there was nothing yet to file.

Outside spending for or against
Money spent to support or oppose a candidate, which never passes through that candidate's own committee. Read the two halves of this grid differently: on a CANDIDATE's row a mark means we hold spending others did about them, and on a PAC's row it means we hold spending that PAC did about candidates. Candidate rows are searched by name rather than committee ID, so name variants matter — and a candidate can be a target here in years when they had no committee of their own at all. MEC's search only works by candidate, so a PAC's row is read from the PAC's own filed reports: a year counts as checked when the reports we hold cover every day of it (this year: through the last quarter already due) and none carries a direct-expenditure page.

Limits of this page
- “Checked, nothing to report” has no date on it. We record that a search was run and returned no records, but not when. A filer who disclosed something later — including an amended report — would not move the cell until we search again.
- A year means the dates on the money, not MEC's report year. Bulk exports group transactions under report names that repeat annually (“July Quarterly Report”), so we place a row in the year its transaction is dated. MEC's own “report year” dropdown can put the same money in the adjacent year.
- Outside spending is matched by name. The last grid is searched by candidate name rather than committee ID, so a filer who spelled a name unusually can hide a real record from a search that looked correct. Every name we have merged is listed at name merges.
- “In the database” is not “complete.” It means we hold itemized rows for that year — not that we hold every report filed for it. Amendments filed after our pull are the usual way a cell goes stale.
- The grids track a specific roster — St. Louis aldermen, the Board President, the Mayor, and Progress PAC. Plenty of other committees are in the database because our roster's filings pointed at them; those are in the inventory below, but their own coverage is not tracked cell by cell.
